What you get

Everything a thru‑hiker needs, and nothing that weighs anything.

Built around the way people actually walk the trail: one segment at a time, with a night to plan for.

The whole trail on one map

All segments from Dan to Eilat, with search for places along the way. Walk it north to south or south to north.

Works without reception

Download the map once and keep navigating in the wadis and the desert where there is no signal.

Know each segment before you start

Distance, elevation graph, photos, weather forecast and the difficulty other hikers gave it.

Track your progress

Mark segments as done and see how many kilometres you have already walked.

Campsites, water and trail libraries

Community‑maintained points with votes and comments. Found a new campsite or tap? Share it with everyone.

Trail Angels

Find hosts along the trail, see what they offer, send a booking request and chat with them in the app.

Trail Mates

Find hikers or a small group walking the same segments on your dates. Chat, plan your nights together, split the gear and, if you choose, share your live location with your group while hiking apart.

A hiker's toolkit

Measure distances with elevation gain, open Street View on the trail, follow the compass and save your own personal points.

A closer look

Clear on a sunny ridge, easy on the eyes at night.

New: Trail Mates

Company for the trail. Find hikers going your way, plan the nights, split the gear and stay in touch.

Tell the app which segments you walk, on which dates and in which direction. It shows you hikers and small groups whose plans overlap with yours and gives every group one place to plan the trip together.

Find your mates

  • Set your plan: segments, dates, direction, pace and whether you prefer Trail Angels or camping. Same-sex only, Shabbat, kosher, age range and languages can be a preference or a must.
  • Matches are hikers and groups whose plans overlap with yours, ranked by the trail days you share, each with the reason it matched. Musts are checked both ways, so you only see people who fit you and whom you fit.
  • Request to join a group, team up with a hiker or start your own group of 2 to 10. The creator approves every request, and once you are in, the group chat opens.
  • Before you match, other hikers see your first name, photo and plan, never your contact details or your location. Sending a request needs a verified phone number, which nobody else ever sees.

Where the group sleeps

  • Every night of the trip gets a place: a campsite or a Trail Angel. The app suggests places near where the group should end each day and shows whether an Angel is available on that date for your group's size.
  • Anyone can propose a place and the group votes. A pair has to agree, a larger group goes by majority and the creator breaks ties. A vote closes after 24 hours or once everyone has voted.
  • When an Angel wins, the creator sends one booking request for the whole group in a tap, prefilled with the date and the number of hikers. If the Angel declines, the night reopens and the next-best option from the vote is offered first.
  • One overview lists every night, decided or still open, and the group gets a reminder when an upcoming night has no plan yet. Each member can switch the reminders off.

Who brings what

  • Every group has a shared gear list that starts with the usual suspects: tent, stove, gas, pot, water filter, first aid kit, power bank. Add, rename or remove items as you like.
  • Tap an item to say that you bring it or that you carry it, so nobody packs a second stove and nobody carries double.
  • Items nobody has taken yet are clearly marked, and from seven days before the trip the group gets one nudge a day until everything is covered. Each member can switch the nudges off.

Hike apart, stay together

  • Share your live location with one group, for today or until a date you choose. It is off unless you turn it on, you can pause or stop at any time, and it ends by itself with the trip.
  • Your mates see where you are on the trail, how far ahead or behind you are, measured along the trail rather than as the crow flies, how fresh the position is and your battery level, which matters in the dead zones.
  • Mates who share appear on the main map as a badge with their photo and in a row on the segment screen. A mate who pauses simply disappears from both; there is no 'last seen'.
  • Only your latest position is stored, and only the members of that group can read it. No history is kept, and it is deleted when you stop sharing, leave the group or delete your profile.

Trail Mates is free like the rest of the app and for adults only (18+). Every profile, group and message has Block and Report, the app shows safety tips before a first meeting, and the questions below cover privacy.

Trail Angels

Locals who open their homes to hikers. The app connects both sides.

Trail Angels are one of the things that make this trail special. The app makes hosting and being hosted simple and respectful of everyone's time.

For hikers

  • See Angels near each segment and what they offer: sleeping arrangement, shower, rides, free or paid.
  • Send a booking request with your dates and group size, then chat in the app.
  • Get a notification when the Angel approves. Phone numbers are shared only after approval.
  • Leave a rating afterwards to help the next hiker.

For Trail Angels

  • Register in the app in a few minutes. No forms to email anyone.
  • Set the days you host, the maximum number of guests and how much notice you need.
  • Approve or decline requests from your phone. Your number is never shown before you approve.
  • Pause hosting whenever life gets busy. Hikers only see you when you are available.

Good to know

Questions hikers ask

Does it work without reception?

Yes. Download the offline map from the app (it is a large file, so use Wi‑Fi). The map, the trail line and your position all work offline. Chats, bookings and other community features need a connection.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The app is free, with no ads and no in‑app purchases.

Do I need an account?

Not for browsing the trail. Sign in with Google or Apple when you want to chat, rank segments, share points or book Angels.

Which languages does it support?

English, Hebrew and German are fully translated. Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Dutch are also available.

How do I delete my data?

In the app: open the menu, choose Sign Out and tick “Delete all my data”. Your profile, bookings, personal points and account are removed. Details are in the privacy policy.

Who can see my location?

Nobody, unless you decide otherwise. Your position stays on your device, with one exception you control: in Trail Mates you can share your live location with the members of one group, for today or until a date you choose. They see only your latest position while sharing is on; you can pause or stop at any time, it switches off by itself when the time is up, and no history is kept.

Why does Trail Mates ask for my phone number, and which countries work?

A verified phone number keeps fake accounts away before you send a request to another hiker. It is linked to your account for the verification only, is never shown to other hikers and is removed with your account. Codes can currently be sent to numbers from Israel, the United States, Germany, Spain, Italy and France; more countries will follow.

How do I report or block someone?

Every Trail Mates profile, group and chat message has Block and Report. Blocking hides that hiker's messages from you and keeps the two of you out of each other's matches. Reports reach us by email and are reviewed within two days; in an emergency, contact the local emergency services first.
